CHARITY

Charity is at the heart of our work and our faith — and it always has been. For the Knights of Columbus, charity means supporting a virtually boundless variety of projects.

FAITH

Our commitment to charitable service is just one of the many ways that we express our Catholic faith. We're here to build a daily bridge back to what matters, for our members and fellow Catholics.

OUR HISTORY AND HERITAGE

Founded on the principles of charity, unity, and fraternity the Knights of Columbus were established in 1882 by Father Michael J. McGivney, assistant pastor of St. Mary's Church in New Haven, Connecticut, and a group of parishioners. Their intent was to bring financial aid and assistance to the sick, disabled, and needy members and their families.

Today, Father McGivney is being considered for sainthood.

Father Michael J. McGivney, Founder

The founder of the Knights of Columbus, Father Michael J. McGivney was a central figure in the growth of Catholicism in America and he remains a model today. His example of charity, evangelization, and empowerment of the laity continues to bear fruit and guide Knights of Columbus around the world.
